The lord of the rings: The fellowship of the ring เดอะ ลอร์ด ออฟ เดอะ ริงส์ ภาคที่หนึ่ง
My next favourite film on this blog is The lord of the rings: the fellowship of the ring. When this film came out I lived in Somerset, England and a little town called Burham-on-sea, it had a very little quaint old fashioned cinema on the High Street where I went to watch this film over and over several times! Not just because the cinema was only 10 minutes walk from my flat but it was because I loved the film so much I wanted to watch it over and over again.
It started since I was very young and read The hobbit. I was into it so much I wanted to pack my bag and went on an adventure like Bilbo Baggins did in the book. When I heard that they were going to make the film of The lord of the rings I was skeptical to start with. I found that many characters from the book were left out and the story was cut short to make it more moving but it worked and seemed to make sense because you couldn't put the whole story in a couple hours film otherwise. It didn't fail to keep the same atmosphere and the feel of the book. Each character comes out of my imagination into real people as if they just walked out of the book! The place like the Shire, Rivendell, Isengard are even better and more vivid than in my imagination. The Shire is exactly like an old English countryside with rapeseeds field and lushy green lawn. Bilbo Baggins' house is just as I imagined it to be as well as Bilbo Baggins himself. I used to think of Ian Holm as Ash from the film, Alien which he is kind of creepy. But he seems to fit perfectly as Bilbo Baggins. As a matter of fact, he is just Bilbo Baggins and no one else is to me. I've never seen Ian McKellen in any other films before but to me, he is not far off Gandalf I used to imagine. I thought the four young hobbits would be older when I read the book but I like Elijah Wood and Sean Astin as Frodo and Sam. Samwise Gamgee is my favourite character and Sean Astin is just as I imagined Sam would look and sound like. I find Merry and Pippin are so annoying in the film, I don't remember they are like that in the book. Oh, and the dark riders ! They are scarier than I imagined them which is good.
I think the scene in Moria is very imaginative - all the goblins and orcs and the Balrog. Don't have to mention the bridge of Khazad Dum scene! I remember I almost couldn't sit, watching it in the cinema - it was that exciting! The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) 4K HDR - The Bridge of Khazad-dûm - YouTube I'm sure I wasn't the only one in that cinema who got excited😅
Then they come to Lothlorien where we meet Galadriel who portrayed by Cate Blanchett. There is something about Lothlorien that is so magical and dreamlike to me - it's just a personal thing. I think I might 've dreamt about a place like that perhaps and it stuck in my brain.
Another scene I really like is the Argonath scene
I don't know, I just feel that that scene is breath taking although I know those two huge statues are not real.Well, I don't think my writing can do this film justice. I think some people put a lot of effort into making this film because the book has been so well loved by people for generations and they make a marvellous job of it. I love it. It has captured everything I felt when I read the book - fairy talelike, peaceful, scary, funny, adventurous, mystical, exciting etc.
The book has always been the one I choose to read when I have to take a long flight or going away. I can read it and it takes me away from the current place I am at. I would be sitting at the Inn of the prancing pony while I was waiting for my flight at Heathrow Airport and I wouldn't care how long I had to wait. The film gives me more or less the same feelings I have from the book - I just want to pack my bag and go on my adventure - perhaps not somewhere like Mordor 😅 but somewhere nice like Rivendell or Lothlorien. The fellowship of the ring is my most favourite book and film out of the three. There is something so magical, mystical, adventurous and romantic about it that I really love. I feel like I lose myself in the world of the Middle Earth every time I read or watch it, I mean, EVERY TIME.😀Please listen to this audio book, it's really, really good.
For Ian McKellen's fan, I've found he was in Scarlet Pimpernel 1982 version. The film is really good and his acting is excellent and he was very young then. It's worth watching The Scarlet Pimpernel Full Movie 1982 - YouTube
