It begins when Frances comes all the way from Africa to stay with her Aunt Polly in Yorkshire, England. She is a wild, high spirited girl whose father is missing in action somewhere in France during the First World War.

Elsie is Aunt Polly's daughter, she is quiet and shy. She believes there are fairies in the woods in the back garden of her house. เอลซี่เป็นลูกสาวของคุณป้าพอลลี่ เธอมีนิสัยเงียบๆ และขี้อาย เธอเชื่อว่ามีนางฟ้าอาศัยอยู่ในป่าด้านหลังของสวนหลังบ้าน

One night Frances goes into Joseph's bedroom out of curiosity and finds many of his fairy drawings. Elsie explains to Frances that Joseph saw them but they disappeared after he died. Frances is also interested in fairies and she knows a lot about them.

I also love the scenery of the English countryside, It's so beautiful and enchanting. It makes you feel like if there were fairies, they would certainly live in a beautiful place like that. Well, I do believe in fairies though.

Frances' uncle has just bought a camera because he feels guilty that he can't remember what his late son looks like anymore. Cameras were not a household item then and photographs were not something you could take as easy as we do today. It actually makes me feel a bit sad to think that you have no photographs of someone you love - just a memory. 😢

Frances wants to borrow her uncle's camera to take some photographs of the fairies so that she can show them to her aunt to make her feel better because she has doubt to believe Joseph that they are real.

The story draws a lot of attention that one tabloid newspaper seeks out the girls to find the truth. The reporter finds out quite easily where the girls live. นักข่าวตามหาตัวเด็กหญิงทั้งสองได้อย่างไม่ยากเย็นเลย
In the meantime, Elsie and Frances are very guilty because they have promised the fairies not to tell anyone about them. I think the fairies love the house they are given. But it's too late as the tabloid has published where Elsie and Frances live. Flock of people come in search of the fairies

The fairies leave! and I don't blame them. พวกนางฟ้าก็เลยอพยพหนีไป
I love the scene when Elsie's dad visits the beck and admires how beautiful it is. Elsie asks her dad, "Why did you make him stop?" I think she means, stop him to believe in fairies. The reply is, "Joseph was nearly eleven when he died. He would have started half-time work at the mill in another year. His childhood was over, but he wouldn't let go of it."
Well, why do we have to give up so much to be a grown up? Why do we have to become someone else? Of course, as we get older we outgrown something- some toys or some habits that seem to happen naturally but we shouldn't have to stop believing in something we believe in just because we are getting older. ฉันชอบฉากที่พ่อของเอลซี่เข้ามาในป่าและมานั่งริมลำธารกับเอลลี่ชื่มชมความงามของธรรมชาติ เอลลี่ถามพ่อว่า "ทำไมถึงสั่งให้เขาหยุด" นั่นก็คือทำไมพ่อสั่งให้โจเซฟหยุดเชื่อเรื่องนางฟ้า คำตอบก็คือ "โจเซฟอายุเกือบจะสิบเอ็ดขวบแล้วตอนที่เขาตาย เขาก็น่าจะไปเริ่มทำงานครึ่งเวลาที่โรงปั่นน้ำได้ในปีถัดไป ความเป็นเด็กก็หมดลง แต่ว่าเขาไม่ยอมโต"

For the Wright family, things are happy ending. But still there is no news of Frances' dad. His bottle of perfume from France has arrived but he is still missing in action and Frances starts to accept that she may never see him again 😢 สำหรับครอบครัวของเอลซี่ เรื่องราวก็ดูเหมือนจะจบลงด้วยดร แต่ฟรานเชสยังคงไม่ได้ขาวคราวจากพ่อเธอ ขวดน้ำหอมที่ส่งมาจากประเทศฝรั่งเศสมาถึงก็จริง แต่ตัวเขายังคงหายสาญสูญ และฟรานเชสก็เริ่มจะยอมรับว่าเธอจะไม่ได้พบพ่ออีก
Elsie and Frances are invited to London and they are quite celebrities there. They visit a hospital because their fairy story give sick people hope. When a boy who is very unwell asks Frances to ask her fairies to help him to get better, Elsie says to him that he needs to ask his guardian angel for that. เอลซี่และฟราสเชสถูกเชิญให้ไปปรากฏตัวที่ลอนดอนและกลายเป็นคนดังไปเหมือนกัน ทั้งคู่ไปเยี่ยมผู้ป่วยที่โรงพยาบาล เพราะเรื่องนางฟ้าเติมความหวังให้กับผู้ป่วย เด็กชายคนหนึงขอให้ฟรานเชสขอให้นางฟ้าช่วยให้เขาหายป่วย แต่เอลซี่เสนอว่าเขาต้องขอเทวดาประจำตัวของเขาจะดีกว่า และบอกว่าเราทุกคนต่างก็มีเทวดาประจำตัว
Meanwhile, the tabloid reporter goes back in the house when everyone is away. He goes inside Joseph's bedroom and looks through his things. He's got frighten as the apparition of Joseph appears and walks through him. I suppose that teaches him something 😁 He is the only nasty character in the film - poor him! ในขณะเดียวกัน นักข่าวก็แอบเข้าไปในบ้านขณะที่ทุกคนไม่อยู่้ เข้าไปในห้องนอนของโจเซฟและค้นข้าวของ แล้วก็เกิดหวาดผวาขึ้นมาเมื่ออยู่ๆ ร่างของโจเซฟก็ปรากฏขึ้นให้เห็นและเดินทะลุร่างของเขาไป เอาเป็นว่านักข่าวน่าจะได้บทเรื่องไม่มากก็น้อยนะ
And arrived by that van, come all the way in the dark winding country road is Frances' dad. ผู้ที่โดยสารมากับรถแวนที่แล่นมาตามถนนชนบทที่ค้ดโค้งในความมืดนั้นคือพ่อของฟรานเชสนั่นเอง
Mel Gibson appears uncredited as Frances' dad.
And this is a chant from the film Just in case you want to use it to invite your fairies around.😉 I will try it as well.:
"Come out from your fairy bower.
Come upon this golden hour.
Come to us, we beg you, please.
Fairies dancing on the breeze."
Don't forget that you have to believe in everything you do!
Of Course, Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths were real people as well as Edward Gardner, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Harry Houdini. The film is based on the true story of the Cottingley fairies. Before her death in 1988, Elsie Wright admitted that four of the five photographs she had taken of the fairies were fake. Never mind if they are fake - it's a lovely story all the same.
